“Envy and Despair” is a work about the pursuit of an unattainable ideal imposed from the outside. The heroines mourn not a specific loss, but the impossibility of accepting themselves within a system of constant comparison and pressure. Envy becomes a mechanism of self-measurement, while despair emerges as a state of inner refusal to remain close to one’s own body. The animals appear as a silent chorus of witnesses, forming an instinctive surrounding that observes this ritual of self-destruction without judgment or consolation.
