In “Night Watch,” the dog becomes a guardian moving through the dark expanse of the sky. Unlike “Day Watch,” the image here is more tense: the clouds grow denser, and the background becomes almost cosmic, turning the dog into a small sentinel hovering above the invisible owner’s inner darkness. Yet it does not appear warlike. On the contrary, its softness creates an unusual contrast with the nocturnal space surrounding it. It is a quiet companion that remains close at the moment when the world becomes less welcoming.
